College of the Rockies – Description

Located in the Kootenay Rocky Mountains of southeastern BC, we offer you lifestyle and learning opportunities to match our spectacular setting. Our Main Campus and Gold Creek Campus are in Cranbrook. We also have regional campuses in Creston, Fernie, Golden, Invermere and Kimberley, which offer unique programs and courses.

 

COLLEGE OF THE ROCKIES 1 OVERALL IN CANADA AND THE WORLD WITH INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

 

Following impressive results in a global international student satisfaction survey conducted in 2012, which saw College of the Rockies ranked 1 overall in Canada and 2 in the world, the 2013 and 2014 results are in: The College moved up to 1 in the world in overall average international student satisfaction!

1971College of the Rockies was started by a member of the local school board and hard rock miner James Patterson. He had realized the pressing need for apprenticeship training in the region of East Kootenay of British Columbia. The government had said that the main campus must be made in Cranbrook. In 1975, 351 students had registered in Cranbrook, 64 had registered in Kimberley, 39 in Golden, 52 in Fernie, and 37 in Invermere. The Cranbrook campus had officially opened on 20th September 1982.

Gradually, new facilities were brought in at the Invermere campus in March 1988, and the Fernie campus in October 1989. East Kootenay Community college had changed its name to the College of the Rockies in 1995. In March 2000, the Canadian Heraldic Authority had registered the Arms of the College of the Rockies. On 29th October 2010, the Knowledge Infrastructure Program Project was opened at the main campus of Cranbrook. The federal/provincial government had spent $12.7 million on the project.

 

The College of the Rockies at Cranbrook has two campuses. The main campus has trades and student services programs, and most of their administrative departments. The Gold Creek campus houses the Timber Framing Program, and Continuing Education Health and Safety courses. College of the Rockies has 5 regional campuses. They all have unique courses and help in serving and giving back to the society they are a part of. The regional campuses are located in Fernie, Creston, Kimberly, Invermere, and Golden. The campus in Golden has breathtakingly beautiful views. Golden is near the Sunshine Village, Panorama Mountain Village, Lake Louise, and Revelstoke Mountain Resort; all world-class ski resorts.

 

College of the Rockies offers both online and in-class programs. Some full range programs are adult basic education, child youth and family studies, health, administrative studies, trades, computer technology, tourism, and fire services. The college had announced the introduction of the Bachelor of Business Administration in Sustainable Business Practices on 16th June 2010. This inclusion of a 4-year degree had indicated an important milestone in the 35 years of the College of the Rockies.
