The University of Regina—with campuses located in Regina and Saskatoon on Treaty 4 and Treaty 6 territories, the ancestral lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakoda, and Lakota nations and the homeland of the Métis—is a comprehensive, mid-sized university that traces its roots back to the creation of Regina College, a small residential high school established by the Methodist church in 1911. The College grew in size and significance becoming a campus of the University of Saskatchewan and, ultimately, an independent degree granting university – the University of Regina – in 1974.

 

The University of Regina has a rich heritage spanning more than 100 years. It was established in 1911 as a private high school. In 1974, it was announced as an autonomous body. The university has 15,000 students. The university offers 41 programs in over 15 disciplines which include business administration, social work, health, Engineering, media and many more.

 

It has a famous theatre named Darke hall. The Wascana Campus has apartment-style residences which can house 1200 students. The university’s athletics teams are called as Regina cougars, only the football team of the university is called Regina Rams. The university is placed in the capital of Saskatchewan province of Canada in Regina.

The city was previously known as Wascana but was later changed to Regina (queen in Latin) in honor of Queen Victoria. You can go for a stroll around the Wascana lake and also visit the Wascana Centre. Art lovers will surely love the Conexus Arts Centre (theatre), and the University of Regina is located just off the Ring road at the corner of Parkway of Wascana and Kramer Boulevard, in south-east Regina. International students from about 90 countries are studying in this university.

 

The University of Regina works with more than 100 Institutes from 27 countries. It has 149 agreements with these institutes. The student to faculty ratio is 20:1 The University provides placement assistance to its students through a career center which conducts career fairs, does academic advising and has a U of R job board. It has a co-operative Education Work experience program which enables its students to earn while they learn and students can earn up to 10 million.

 

The university endowment fund has a healthy value of 86.1 million Dollars. The University of Regina boasts of a 74,000 strong Alumni. Some of its notable alumni include Akiem Hicks (American footballer), Jhon Hewson (Australian politician), Jonathan Denis (Canadian Politician), Robert Boyer (visual artist), Elizabeth Raum (music composer). Dr. Mohan Babu, a faculty member, is collaborating with the University of Toronto and the Harvard medical school to find new ways to fight e-coli.
